Red Pandas
• Less than 10,000 red pandas are in the world
• Genus and species: Ailurus fulgens • Also known as "lesser pandas" or red cat-bears • They were discovered 40 years before giant pandas! • They are originally from China (Sichuan, Yunnan, Xizang) and Nepal and Bhutan • They like cool temperatures • They use their fluffy tails as blankets to keep warm • Red pandas eat bamboo leaves and shoots, plus berries, blossoms, other plant leaves and the occasional bird egg • They are solitary animals • They are on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species due to habitat loss (listed as "vulnerable") Source: Smithsonian National Zoological Park Giant Pandas

• Approximately 100 pandas live in zoos around the world • They are native to south central China • Known as pandas, panda bears and giant pandas • Average lifespan in the wild: 20 years • They love bamboo!
